Andreas Kotala Shines at IWT Finnish Open 2025 in Helsinki

The IWT Finnish Open 2025 in Helsinki saw intense competition with top international racketlon players battling for glory. Among them, Swiss youngster Andreas Kotala, the biggest talent in Swiss Racketlon’s junior ranks, delivered a remarkable performance, competing in both the Men’s Elite and U21 categories. In the Men’s Elite draw, Kotala faced tough opposition in his three-player group, securing one narrow victory (+2) and one close defeat (-2). He then showcased his composure in a thrilling gummiarm challenge, securing his place in the final. Against local favorite Jesse Kiljunen, Kotala started strong in table tennis but was ultimately outmatched by Kiljunen’s dominant badminton and squash, finishing as the runner-up.

In the U21 category, a four-player lineup was reduced to three due to an injury withdrawal. Kotala, impressively, did not even use his tennis racket and still cruised to victory, securing the U21 title in dominant fashion.

Meanwhile, Swiss veteran Graham King was also set to compete but unfortunately had to withdraw due to a knee injury.

Kotala’s performance in Helsinki once again highlighted his versatility and resilience, solidifying his position as one of Switzerland’s brightest racketlon prospects.
