Several Medals, nice Italian Food and a new Minigolf King at the IWT Racket Masters Augsburg 2025

Only three weeks after the world championships in Rotterdam a Swiss delegation of 7 players participated in the next international world tour event in Augsburg. The tournament location (TBS Wünschig) not only proved to be a perfect center to play racket sports, but also consists of a fantastic Italian restaurant with a garden terrace, a minigolf course and a sauna. Moreover, thanks to the good weather tennis could be played outside on clay, which contributed to a great tournament experience.

The tournament started on Friday as usual with the mixed and the doubles matches. In the mixed A draw only Nicolas managed to win the first round with his partner Anaïs from France. They then ended up third after a tight loss in the semi-finals, but this is a great result considering that it was the first tournament they played together. Adeline and Léon managed to secure the fifth place beating the other Swiss pair Dara and Noah.

In the doubles events the Swiss players were a bit more successful. Adeline and her partner Pauline lived up to their role as favorites in the woman's doubles and secured the first place. Dara and her partner Sonia from the Czech Republic took the second place. In the men's doubles event the Swiss also got two medals. Nicolas managed to beat the Mamié brothers in a high intensity semi-finals together with his partner Julien from France. Unfortunately, they were a bit tired after that match and couldn't keep up the pace in the final, so they ended up second. Noah and Léon on the other hand managed to win their last doubles match together and secured the bronze medal.

In the singles the Swiss only played in the elite draws except for the Kotala brothers. Petr played quite well and had a lot of fun in his second Racketlon tournament and managed to get fourth in the first timer category. His brother Andreas on the other hand played both the elite and the U21 category. He showed some good performances beating Benjamin Radl and Simon Vaclahovsky and only lost to Luke Griffths. However, he had to retire on Sunday due to a hip injury, but still ended up second in the U21 category. In the woman's elite draw Dara lost against Adeline and Silke from Germany in the group matches and thus couldn't compete for the medals. Unfortunately, Adeline was unable to achieve an exploit in the play off matches and therefore finished in an ungrateful fourth place. Coming back to the men's elite draw, Noah and Nicolas both lost against a strong table tennis player from Hungary. Léon was also beaten in the quarterfinals by the three times world champion Luke Griffiths in an entertaining game. However, he managed to beat both Simon Vaclahovsky (FIR Nr. 10) and Bastian Böhm (FIR Nr. 8) form Germany to secure the fifth place, which was the best Swiss results in the men elite singles. The results can be found here.

The atmosphere beside the court was also fantastic. The players enjoyed the long weekend by eating together on the terrace, playing some card games and crown the minigolf champion. The latter was highly contested and went to Dara with a final score of 51 points.

The Racketlon world tour will continue in South Africa next week and then goes to Austria, Norway, Czechia, India and will end in La Santa, Spain in December (registration can be done here). Good luck for everyone, who is competing in these tournaments!

Open Series Villars-sur-Ollons

Racketlon World Championships 2025

Quarterfinal for Lenggenhager – 2x Gold and 1x Bronze for Switzerland

Last week, the Racketlon Singles and Team World Championships took place in Rotterdam. Swiss Racketlon was represented by a delegation of 16 athletes – with great success.

Men’s Elite:
Nicolas Lenggenhager, currently world no. 7, won both his round of 32 and round of 16 matches before tennis and only had to bow out in the quarterfinals against world no. 1 and eventual world champion Leon Griffiths.

Men 70+:
After being eliminated in the group stage last year, Graham King secured the group win this time and went on to win the final against Julian Clapp (GBR) – who had beaten him in the 2022 65+ final. King had already been world champion in the 65+ category in Leipzig in 2019.

Men C: Our 2nd Nicolas (Champod) demonstrated to all the men in category D why he was also qualified to represent Switzerland in the elite team. There is hardly a better player on the entire tour in table tennis, and Champod also impressed in the other sports, securing his title in category C.

Men U18:
Andreas Kotala won the bronze medal in the U18 category in Rotterdam. Last year, as a favourite in the U16 category, he had to withdraw due to appendicitis. This year, he delivered a strong performance and fought his way onto the podium.

Team World Championships:
Both Swiss teams had to gain some tough experience at the Team World Championships. Neither team managed to secure a win and returned home without a victory. Nevertheless, the atmosphere among the Swiss delegation – and also among the international athletes – was excellent.
